Summer In the Park

Tomoana Rd, Hastings

Summer in the Park is a free summer concert series held for 18 years featuring local and national musicians playing everything from Opera to show tunes, rock, pop and country music.

Arts Inc Heretaunga and Summer in the Park present:

27 January - Stretch with Paula Sugden

Anthony Stretch has a passion in his performance that sets shows alight. From dark-hearted ballads to roof-raising choruses, it’s a bittersweet blend of country, soul, folk and rock’n’roll.

Now framing this exceptional voice is the combination of acoustic guitar and the incredible tone of a 300-year-old cello. In the hands of Paula Sugden, her cello sings with grace and power. Their musical connection has brought audiences to a hush and left them roaring for more.

3 February - Alumni performances of the 2019 New Zealand Singing School:  Te Wānanga Toi Waiata

The New Zealand Singing School Trust is pleased to present alumni from the 2019 School held at EIT in January performing pieces from classical and musical theatre genres.

Held biennially at EIT, the School caters for around 80 students and has a world-class international faculty of 35 tutors and accompanists in an 11-day intensive and life-changing vocal experience for those looking to accelerate their skills and confidence in singing and performance.

10 February - The Cellar Door Band plays Neil Young

Don’t miss this class act combining the musicianship of local stalwarts Ben Throp on Guitar, Vocals, Harmonica, Scotty Smith - Mandolin, Lap Steel Guitar, Vocals, Lindsay Gibb - Electric Guitar, Tony Parker - Bass Guitar, Vocals, William Devine - Rhodes Piano and Joel Wilton – Drums.

This gig is a must for all those with a little Neil in their hearts.

17 February - Sonic Delusion feat. Robin Wells

New Zealand based Swiss-Kiwi, Andre Manella, is a high-energy performer, blending dynamic layers of rhythm, tones, bass lines and vocals, carving out his unapologetically ambitious and intriguingly experimental sound.

Looping for over ten years and still enjoying the challenge of building up a song in front of a live audience with his latin-infused, pop-laced, funky, electroacoustic folk, Manella will be performing with Taranaki Saxophonist extraordinaire Robin Wells. Bring your dancing shoes!

24 February - Devil’s Elbow & Music Dog

Described as ‘A new and smokin' hot take on country’ (Scott Kara, NZ Herald), Hawke’s Bay’s own  Devil’s Elbow return to Cornwall Park  before heading into the studio to record new material performed by Alec Withers (g/vox), Ben Persen (b), Andrew Pearce (g/vox) and Cole Tilbury (d).

Kicking the day off in a similar vein, Music Dog with Les Withers (v/g) and Sean Coleman (g) will present their brand of outlaw-country rock by artists such as Waylon Jennings, Steve Earle & Tom Petty.

Take a look around...
